Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan divorce: Former couple battle over 'Magic Mike' rights

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's divorce battle is still ongoing, nearly six years after the actress first filed.
The latest hurdle in the former couple's settlement is a conflict over the legal rights to the copyrights and trademarks of "Magic Mike," the film series starring Tatum, 43, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
Dewan's legal team is requesting a separate trial to decide whether the pair share legal rights over intellectual property, claiming this is a complex and central financial issue in the former couple's multi-year divorce battle.
USA TODAY has reached out to Tatum and Dewan's reps for comment.
Dewan, 43, argues that Tatum co-developed and co-financed the "Magic Mike" film series — which has spawned other projects, including live shows — in part using shared money from their marriage. She claims Tatum and his business partners have "created a complex web of LLCs" for business activities to "dilute and conceal the value of" the film franchise's assets. Dewan claims all of this was done without her spousal consent, according to the court documents.
In a separate filing, Dewan claims Tatum refuses to "accept an equal division" of the intellectual property.
Tatum noted in a filing last week that he has made "countless settlement offers" to Dewan. Tatum said he disagrees with her request for a separate trial as the "Magic Mike" legal rights do "not affect any of the issues to be tried."
Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan request each other's testimony in divorce
Both have submitted witnesses to the court to testify about the dispute, with both lists including each other. Tatum also submitted Dewan's current fiancé, Steve Kazee, as a witness to testify about their "cohabitation, joint expenses, and all related matters."
Dewan and Kazee, who got engaged in 2020, share two children. Tatum has also since moved on, and is currently in a relationship with Zoë Kravitz.
Dewan and Tatum were declared legally single by a judge in 2019.
Tatum starred in 2012's breakout film "Magic Mike," which is loosely based on his experience as a stripper as an 18-year-old. The movie spawned two sequels — 2015's "Magic Mike XXL" and 2023's "Magic Mike's Last Dance" — stage musicals, a live Las Vegas show and a short-lived Max reality TV series.
Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum kids, relationship timeline
Dewan and Tatum married in 2009 after meeting while on set of the 2006 film "Step Up."
They announced their split in a joint social media statement in 2018, saying there were "no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision."
The former couple share a 10-year-old daughter, Everly, and have previously agreed to equal physical and legal custody.
